ALLO – Relay Attenuator

From: 54.57 $

Units Sold: 9

The ALLO Relay Attenuator is a really clever volume control: it is designed to change volume via high quality resistors and relays. This way it delivers a better audio quality compared to ordinary potentiometers and digital volumes. It’s also very convenient since it can be used with any analog signal (via its input) or by plugging it on top of Piano, Piano 2.1, Boss DACs. It allows to control Volume with Allo I2S DACs or any USB DAC while maintaining bit-perfect playback.

Product Description

The ALLO Relay Attenuator is a really clever volume control: it is designed to change volume via high quality resistors and relays. This way it delivers a better audio quality compared to ordinary potentiometers and digital volumes. It’s also very convenient since it can be used with any analog signal (via its input) or by plugging it on top of Piano, Piano 2.1, Boss DACs.

Personally, I think this can be a really valuable addition to any system. Volume control is a critical part of the audio chain, and the Allo Relay Attenuator just gets it done in a very good way. It allows to control Volume with Allo I2S DACs or any USB DAC while maintaining bit-perfect playback (even some hardware volumes might mess up with bit-accuracy).

Features:

  • 64-step logarithmic stereo attenuation
  • Each step is 1.0dB and together span a 63dB audio attenuation range
  • By avoiding any active electronics, a very clean and open sound is maintained
  • Works on top of Piano, Piano 2.1, Boss DACs
  • Works also with any Analog source (via analog inputs)
  • Plug&Play: install the Allo Relay Attenuator plugin and you’re ready to use it.

Relay Attenuator for Piano, Piano 2.1, Boss DACs. Nominal value is 10k.

Simply plug in above your DAC and then take the output attenuated by relays switching, to thin film 0.1% 25ppm SUSUMU audio grade resistors.

How To use it with Volumio

  1. Install the Relay Volume Attenuator Plugin
  2. Enable the Relay Volume Attenuator Plugin
  3. If you want to map the 64 steps to 100, or see the user manual, just go to Relay Volume Attenuator Plugin settings
  4. To use it with Piano, Piano 2.1, Boss DAC: simply plug it on top of them, and enable the DAC. It is suggested to set Volume of the DAC to 100 before enabling the Allo Relay Volume Attenuator Plugin and to set the Piano 2.1 in dual stereo mode.
  5. To use it with any analog source: simply plug the analog output you want to control in the inputs of Allo Relay Attenuator and connect its output to your amplifier. This is extremely useful is your USB DAC does not have Hardware Volume control, and you use it with your Raspberry PI. Please note: to use the Allo Relay Attenuator directly on the Raspberry PI you need GPIO spacers, since the Allo Relay Volume Attenuator is not HAT compliant.
