[SOLVED] USB scan fails on Raspberry pi 2 / Volumio 2

First of all. I really like the new version of volumio. It looks much better and I’m very happy with the Spotify connect functionality.

I however have trouble playing locally stored music file (USB flash drive). After scanning more than 150 artists updating stops and locally stored music cannot be accessed. I have used this USB flash drive successfully on a raspberry pi 1/ volumio 1.5x before. Volumio 2 seems to be more picky than volumio 1.

I tried to delete all the non audio files from the device (except for images), repaired disk errors, searched the Internet for possible solutions. This however did not have any success. Any idea’s how to solve this problem?

Please type the command:

sudo journalctl -f

before scanning, and report the errors here.

Thanks chsims1! I ran the command you suggested. In the beginning of the output you can see the last two files that were successfully scanned. After that lots of errors followed.

No expert here, but mpd is complaining about the files. Is it a lot of files or just a small number? Could you isolate them, and see if mpd finishes it’s scan?

Edit: actually looking again it might be ffmpeg that is doing the complaining. There has been a problem with ffmpeg and mpd recently. What happens if you edit /etc/mpf.conf to include:

decoder { plugin “ffmpeg” enabled “no” }

Your help made me fix it.

login from the terminal into the raspberry. (use putty, bash or another terminal program login: volumio, pass: volumio)
at the terminal give the following commands

cd /
cd etc
sudo nano mpd.conf

Add following text at the end of mpd.conf

Somehow I get the impression that the audio volume is louder and quality improved because of this adjustment. I use volumio 2 in combination with a raspberry pi 2 & hifiberry dac plus board
