Only PCM over HDMI to Marantz SR6012

Hello,

In playback options i set the signal to go as DSD Direct. My avr, Marantz SR6012 supports all sorts of audio formats. I am not sure why it is reciving signal as PCM.

I have RPi 3 B+, audio over HDMI to AVR.
I am using Radio Paradise plugin and flac stream.
I am also playing my flac files from NAS.

I dont seem to get bitstream to my AVR. I would like my AVR to decode all audio.

What is not right?

Hi Anatakar!

If your not using a sacd player Im pretty sure that your Marantz SR6012 only supports dsd via usb front or network connections.

Playing music from a computer via hdmi to your Marantz will allways show you pcm in display. Tip read more how hdmi works.

There are two digital dacs inside your reciver.

  • First dac is dedicated mostly for movies but also ok for music. Connections via - hdmi, toslink, coax etc.

  • Second dac is for highres music and in your case the better dac. Connections via - usb or network (cabel/wifi).

Now, if you play through the highress dac the format will sound right (no downsampling) and also it will most likely show up in recivers display like this: FLAC,WAV,DSD,PCM + KHz etc…

Voilà!

Here is my workaround.

  1. If Volumio 2 and the RPi 3 B+ is the only option buy a internal or external dac (with display) then hook it up analog via “rca” to your marantz.

  2. If Volumio 2 is not so importent another way is to install Heos app on your webtablet/phone (Read Marantz SR6012 manual ). A really good app for your Marantz! Then share music folder/hdd via computer/nas/router.

Cheers!
