Albums not playing

Dear all

A few of my albums on my hard drive seem to have developed a bit of glitch. When go to browse / albums / and try to play an album by clicking the corner of the album art and pressing play they just do not play. All the album tracks are there and I can play the individual tracks but they refuse to play as an album. I moved the files to a USB stick rather than a hard drive and this did not help either and also re-ripped the files and again the same story.

Any ideas on what is going on.

Regards

David

What device? Which version of Volumio?

I experience a similar thing on both the latest Pi version (Pi 3) and the latest x86 version (Minix z64) and have been meaning to post about it for a while.

If I search for an artist, click through to their album list and then play an album everything works as expected. But if I search for an album by name nothing happens when selecting ‘play’.

This is especially a problem when trying to listen to a particular Neil Young album as I usually have to look through the ‘Neil Young & Crazy Horse’, ‘Neil Young and Crazy Horse’ and ‘Neil Young’ listings to find the one I want. Also a problem when I want to listen to a Bjork album and can’t type the proper ‘ö’ symbol.

Having the same issue here where some albums would mysteriously refuse to play when accessed from the Albums browsing page while they play perfectly fine when accessed through the Artists browsing

Tried to narrow down the difference between correctly playing albums and failing albums with no success.

I’m currently running version 2.285 on an RPi 3, library mounted through cifs.
Happy to spend more time troubleshooting if that helps, below is an example log for a non playing album.

I am experiencing the same issue. I can’t play certain albums directly (which I could play with previous versions of Volumio!), but I can play the individual tracks. First I thought that it was due to strange characters in the file naming. But after removing these characters, the issue still persists. If someone is looking into this issue, I am happy to share one of the albums in order to replicate the issue…
System version: 2.2323

Regards,
Rens

I have the same issue. I’ll try to find one tonight and check out the log.

In addition to my previous post ( I am not sure if it is related, but anyway): When I start playing a Spotify album, playing (often) stops after the first song. I then have to hit ‘play’ again, in order to have the remainder of the album played. For example, this album always stops playing: Spotify> Genres and moods > Chill> (play album: ‘Your favorite coffeehouse’)

Bumping this issue,
Volumio 2.344
Raspberry Pi 3
Aune X1S DAC
some albums are ok ‘clear and play’, some not react at all

Bests,
Marcin

Agree, just updated to 2.344, but no change: some albums still won’t play. Is there a tech-savy person out there?

IMHO this is due to a modification that has been made in august: your album will play only if it has proper albumartist metadata on it.
Can you confirm if you have your albumartist metas there on the albums that do not play?

Actually I do have albumartist metadata on probably all my albums - had to assign it for volumio to recognize compilations properly (assigned ‘Various’, tags in settings are also that albums were presented correctly - it worked fine), and selected albumartist as sorting option.

Should I provide you any more details?

BTW. I noticed, that standard ‘Various Artists’ assigned by iTunes are not recognized by volumio despite having Various Artists in the settings - maybe it doesn’t recognize two words properly).

Bests,
Marcin

Yes please, send us a logs just after the problem occurs:
volumio.github.io/docs/User_Man … oting.html

Logs sent

logs.volumio.org/volumio/dXOjSDH.html

Best,
Marcin

And my logs: logs.volumio.org/volumio/uQntcZl.html
(See the log after Dec 19 16:15, at that time I started test-playing a couple of albums of which I know they won’t play.)

Thanks,
Rens

Can you send me one of the offending files via mail? info at volumio dot org

I have the same problem. Any progress on resolving the error? I can send files if you need them.

HI, me too, same behavior. For some albums, when I click on play album or add to queue, action is not handled… sometimes it starts a track that was in queue before.
When I go through the NAS to find directly the folder, then it works.
Let me know how I can help you on that behavior…

Same issue here. Happy to send an offending album if its useful.

Hi
I have been experimenting today and noticed this occurred with two albums with very long names and equally long “Album Artist” names. When I deleted the “Album Artist” data and replaced with ‘VA’ the issue resolved. I thought it was perhaps the metadata was too long so replace VA with a couple of other 2-letter terms and again the music would not play.
I then tried the term “Various Artists” and the album would now play via the large play button. I tried using mixed terms such as “Chill - Various Artists” but the album wouldn’t play.
I dont know what this means but it might help you find the issue.

Unfortunately if I change the albums to Various Artists, or VA etc; when I select Artist View it groups all the VA and Various Artist albums together that use this term in ‘Album Artist’.

Hi Michelangelo, all

This is my first post, so I need first of all to say to you and all developers of Volumio a big THANK YOU for this fantastic tool. Absolutely impressed.

I am having same issue with Album not passing to the cue. I am attaching a partial metadata from one of the album having the problem. Screenshot taken from MusicBrainz Picard. The metadata set seems complete, at least on this album.
Only first track passes to the cue, but does not play.

I see there is a long thread on this and possibly you are already working for a fix.
Anything I can do to contribute to solve this, please let me know.

Thank you.

Alessandro (Milano).
