[Solved] Volumio1.5 CuBox cant connect from outside possible

Hi,

I´d just installed the 1.5 version on my CuBox i4. Pretty good work!!!
But I can´t see my CuBox in the network. With the 1.4 version I could see my device and the folders USB and WEBRADIO. So it was very easy for me to put on new audiofiles and webradios to my usb-HDD. I think I have to give rights to the folders, but how to do this?

Greetings from Germany

Thank you for reporting! I will investigate this and report you back

I Think it is no general Problem.
I did the same, but all connections are working fine (Web Ui and HTML Interface)
Maybe you received another ip address for your cubox ?

No, I have static ip routing. HTML is working fine. If I start a search under Windows 7 to join volumio as a network share it will not find it. I tried both, the IP and the name volumio. Even a ping to the ip adress from cmd console is not possible. But under Firefox no problems at all.

Hello,

I can confirm this problem on my device as well.
It worked well with Volumio 1.4, I could see the Volumio Samba shares in my network.
After I flashed Volumio 1.5, I cannot see any Volumio computer (and therefore no Samba shares Webradio, Ramplay, USB, NAS) in my network anymore.
There was no other change in my network, no changes on my router, no changes on my Windows computer.

Volumio 1.5
Cubox-i4
Windows 7 Home Premium x64

I have searched my Network using Windows Explorer, and also using Total Commander, no Volumio visible in the list of available computers.
I re-downloaded the Volumio 1.5 image, and re-flashed it, it did not help.

The file /etc/samba/smb.conf looks like this.
I tried to remove the character # in line # netbios name = Volumio, and restarted Volumio, but it did not help.

I don’t know if it helps in the problem analysis, but what I can see in my Windows Network is:

Media Devices
Network Device Volumio , Manufacturer JF Light Industries, Model UpMPD
Network Device volumio: root , Manufacturer Justin Maggard, Model Windows Media Connect compatible (MiniDLNA)

Could you open an explorer window and go to:
\volumio.local or \[ip of volumio]

You should see something like this
volumio shares.png

windows network in explorer doesn’t always show all devices in the network.

I tried both \volumio.local or \[ip of volumio], not working.

I just checked my samba config file, its exactly the same, including the error: security = share But this isn’t the problem at hand (just creates an error message)

To me it looks like smbd or nmbd isn’t running.

Could you open a console and do:

sudo ps -ef | grep smbd
sudo ps -ef | grep nmbd

This should output something like this:

pi@volumio:~$ sudo ps -ef | grep smbd
root 2336 1 0 22:23 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/smbd -D
root 2349 2336 0 22:23 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/smbd -D
pi 2734 2635 0 22:28 pts/1 00:00:00 grep smbd
pi@volumio:~$ sudo ps -ef | grep nmbd
root 2264 1 0 22:23 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/nmbd -D
pi 2737 2635 0 22:28 pts/1 00:00:00 grep nmbd

If it does not show this, but just a single line “pi 2737 2635 0 22:28 pts/1 00:00:00 grep nmbd” it’s safe to assume smbd and nmbd aren’t running. To start these do:

sudo service smbd start
sudo service nmbd start

And then try connecting to it using explorer and \volumio or \[ip of volumio]

root@volumio:~# sudo ps -ef | grep smbd
root 4261 4251 0 21:44 pts/0 00:00:00 grep smbd
root@volumio:~#
root@volumio:~# sudo ps -ef | grep nmbd
root 4279 4251 0 21:45 pts/0 00:00:00 grep nmbd
root@volumio:~#
root@volumio:~# sudo service smbd start
root@volumio:~# sudo service nmbd start
root@volumio:~#

I tried both \volumio.local and \[ip of volumio], not working.

So I did again:

root@volumio:~# sudo ps -ef | grep smbd
root 4343 4251 0 21:48 pts/0 00:00:00 grep smbd
root@volumio:~#

root@volumio:~# sudo ps -ef | grep nmbd
root 4361 4251 0 21:48 pts/0 00:00:00 grep nmbd
root@volumio:~#

So for some reason, smbd and nmbd cannot be started.

The samba package is missing (even though the config files are there), developers are aware of this bug.
In the mean time, you can fix it by installing samba, e.g. via SSH:

sudo apt-get install samba

I cannot find smbd nor nmbd in /usr/sbin.
Could this be the problem?

In progress, will let you know.

Problem solved, thank you for your help!

Immediately after Samba was installed, Volumio shown up in the Windows Network Explorer.
Volumio is accessible in Windows Network also after I rebooted Volumio.

Thank you for the confirmation. Added to the FAQ

Wonderful, it´s working fine as it was in v1.4!

Thank´s a lot for your help!
